Tornado touches down in Swan Quarter; high water floods Manteo

The Hyde County Sheriff’s Office on Friday evening confirmed a tornado touchdown in Swan Quarter, with damage to Main Street, Quarter Road and Bridgman Road.

Law enforcement, the Swan Quarter Volunteer Fire Department and Hyde County Emergency Management were in the area Friday night assessing damage and checking on residents.

There were no reported injuries. There was, however, damage to power poles and farm shops.

Friday’s high winds also caused some soundside flooding in downtown Manteo. The town advised residents to move vehicles out of the area and “secure anything that could float away.”
