One person dead, one hurt after early morning fire in Tyrrell County

A house fire early Saturday in Tyrrell County claimed the life of one person, and another is being treated for burns at the hospital in Greenville.

The Tyrrell, Creswell, Mid-County and Plymouth fire departments responded to the 800 block of Highway 64 East in Columbia for the call that was made around 1 a.m.

One fatality was confirmed, while the injured person was flown to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, according to the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office.

The names of the victims have not been released, and the cause of the blaze was still under investigation.
