Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 4 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of eastern North Carolina, including Dare County, through 4 p.m.

A cold front pushing eastward today is expected to trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly this afternoon into early evening.

Some of the storms are expected to be strong with gusty winds and small hail.
