Two swimmers pulled from Croatan Sound at Old Swimming Hole

A pair of swimmers were pulled from the Croatan Sound by first responders Sunday morning at the Old Swimming Hole on Roanoke Island.

Dare County Sheriff’s Office Major Jeff Derringer said a caller to 911 at 11:02 a.m. reported two people were under the water off the swimming beach adjacent to the Dare County Regional Airport.

Derringer said the pair were brought to shore and transferred to Dare County EMS for treatment. An update on their condition was not available Sunday afternoon.

Personnel from the sheriff’s office, Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department and Dare County EMS responded to the incident.
