Hyde County health officials today announced that three residents have recently died as a result of COVID-19.

“This is heartbreaking to our agency, and the staff wish to convey our condolences to the family and friends of those who have lost loved ones,” said county Health Director Luanna Gibbs.

Health officials did not say where in the county the residents lived, or give any biographical information.

Gibbs said the county continues to see community spread of the virus and urged people to take precautions.

“Please take this seriously,” she said. “Though most people recover, not all do.”

Since testing began in March, Hyde County has experienced 107 COVID-19 cases, with 38 active now and 66 people recovered.
