Today might be the day.

After days of tidal overwash flooding, ocean conditions were much better overnight, Cape Hatteras National Seashore said in a Facebook post this morning.

Heavy equipment operators on Ocracoke and Hatteras islands were able to continue dune rebuilding without being hindered by high tide cycles, and progress from yesterday remains intact.

The N.C. Department of Transportation says N.C. 12 in Rodanthe and on Ocracoke is “likely sometime today.”

Stay tuned.
