Dare County reports 53 new COVID-19 cases; school board meeting postponed

Dare County Health and Human Services reported 53 new COVID-19 cases Thursday as rising numbers prompted a postponement of tonight’s scheduled Dare County Board of Education meeting.

In an email to parents, Dare County Schools Superintendent John Farrelly said the meeting is being postponed until Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 3 p.m. because “multiple Central Office leaders may have to go into COVID-19 quarantine protocol.”

Since testing began in March, Dare County has seen 1,882 COVID-19 cases and six deaths. Of those, 221 cases are currently active with 10 residents hopitalized.

Thursday’s new cases include:
