If you have a New Year’s resolution to get involved in a local community organization, then consider joining the Outer Banks Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Coalition.
The coalition was founded in 2013 after several collisions involving pedestrians and cyclists occurred across the Outer Banks. We are a group of committed and concerned citizens who are working to preserve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. Our members hail from Corolla to Hatteras and include several town officials, law enforcement officers, local citizens, and business leaders.
The coalition has a strong community presence at many events throughout the year, distributing bicycle lights, helmets, and education and safety training materials. We have also forged strong relationships with the NC Department of Transportation, Dare County, and local media outlets to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety in our community.
The next meeting of the OBX Bike/Ped Coalition will take place virtually on Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. If you would like to join, please email Jessie Piacenza, Chair, at [email protected].
