Dare County Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scam threatening arrest


The Dare County Sheriff’s Office has learned of a phone scam effecting the local area.

The caller notes that he is Lt. Daniels with the Dare County Sheriff’s Office and instructs the victim to come to the Detention Center with a check in the amounts of $3,500 to $3,600 to avoid being arrested. The victim is told to call as they near the Detention Center for further instructions.

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office will never make such a call, especially for payment to avoid arrest. The Sheriff’s Office advises the public to hang up if they receive such a call.
